Us & Them

What a world we are living in.

Does that statement make you hopeful or sad? The same words can have such different meaning based on your view of the world. As I have said in some of my other posts, life is all about choices. How do you choose to live?

As much as I can, I choose to live with a joyful disposition and hope for the world. It’s not always easy and there are plenty of times when I experience the complete opposite. And therein lies a valuable lesson. The lesson of opposites. We tend to divide life into opposites like good and bad, or happy and sad, etc, etc. It’s an easy way to categorize things, but it’s a bad way to live life. Why is that? Opposites create opposition. Opposites create Us’s and Thems. Let’s take a real life example. Sadly to this day people are still categorized by their opposites: Black or White, Straight or Gay, Man or Woman, Republican or Democrat, and so on and so on. This is a problem on so many levels, and as history has shown time and time again, this is a terrible way to live. Life does not work this way. Life is full of infinite, complex, unique expressions that are everywhere on the spectrum, everywhere in between, not just on 2 sides.

What the world needs now, is a re-understanding and a realignment. A remembering that there is more to life than just the opposites. In truth, there really are no opposites. There are just variations on an infinite scale. It’s not about finding the ends, it’s about finding the middle, the balance.
No more Us & Them.

Which brings me to the following video. A reminder of this very idea. I wrote the poem in this video more than 10 years ago. It flowed through me, and then it stayed and waited in the depths of my computer files until I happened upon it just 2 weeks ago. It reminded me of everything I just mentioned in this blog. With all the chaos and politics of 2016, I thought it would be a good idea to remind everyone else of these things too.
“So listen up closely, there’s a lesson to learn. Though few have learned it, but now it’s your turn.”

I Hope you enjoy it. Please share the video with as many people you can and let’s help make 2017 a year of cooperation, instead of opposition.

One step at a time.
